A retail business reborn in New Jersey

It seems that several companies are becoming so powerful that they are beginning to weigh down some of the most integrated stores in the world, such as bookstores.

Last week Barnes & Noble, located in Clark, New Jersey, announced its closure after 24 years. The reason for the closure is because the landlord terminated the lease, but this still raises concerns about the potential closure of more bookstores.

This particular Barnes & Noble has created a sense of community for those at Clark over the years and will certainly be missed. The exact Barnes & Noble is now looking for a new location so it can continue to provide books and hospitality.

There’s another Barnes & Noble in danger of closing in Springfield due to Chick-fil-A, a much stronger company that wants to build a new location.

For once, this last story isn’t as sad as most. Barnes & Noble, in addition to other bookstores, was lucky. Thanks to social media, there has strangely been an increase in paper books, almost like a “retail apocalypse”. It might save some.

Perhaps the best news for the little guys is this: over 170 independent bookstores have opened in 2021, despite the fact that we are suffering from a pandemic. More and more people started reading as many books went viral on Tik Tok.

People have started using social media platforms to discuss new and old books, which has caused hard copy book sales to skyrocket. It’s almost comforting to know that the books will never be ‘extinct’ and that we can look forward to many more bookstore coffees along with a good read.
