Armed police storm a Weymouth convenience store

Two men were allegedly pinned down and ‘held at gunpoint’ by officers in a shop in Weymouth. Armed police stormed into Londons in Abbotsbury Road just after 6pm on Thursday evening (March 3).

An employee allegedly told customers afterwards that something had happened to the store, but that it had since reopened as normal. At least five police vehicles were spotted parked outside the store as customers were at one point told not to enter the store.

Charlotte Moore, a hairstylist at The Flamingo Room salon in Weymouth town centre, visited the Londi on her way home from work when she saw flashing lights outside the store.

She told Dorset Live: “I was at home after work The Flamingo Room Weymouth lounge and we drove into the Londons. I was driving on ‘L’ plates and stopped in a gap.

“As we were about to leave the car we were told ‘stay in the car, stay in the car’ by offers from the armed police who were surrounding the area. At least five cars were there. Two young boys were taken to the ground at gunpoint.

“It was a first for me to witness this and it was very scary for me, my mum and my six-year-old sister in the back of the car.”

She was allowed into the Londis and saw ‘two men pinned down by police officers’. Charlotte said: “We walked through a boy pinned to the floor and another pinned against the wall. People working in the store told us that the two suspects had brought a few items into the store and walked out. By the police.

“It tells me that the police had been following them for some time and were waiting for them outside the store. As we drove away the suspects were put into a police van.”
