BREAKDOWN: ‘Teenage’ yobs carry out armed robbery at Lanarkshire convenience store


Armed robbers threatened terrified staff at an Airdrie store and fled with hundreds of pounds in cash early this morning.

Police call for information after the theft at the Cairnhill Road premises at around 7.25 a.m. on Thursday, January 6.

Two men entered the store with a knife and a metal pole and threatened staff, before heading back down Bellsdyke Road with triple-figure money.

The two are described as being around 17 to 19 years old, thin to medium build, and dressed in all-black clothing, including black hooded tops, gloves and face masks.

Detective Sergeant Mark Nelson said: “Fortunately no one was injured, but it was a frightening experience for the personnel involved.

“Investigations are underway to identify those responsible and we are appealing to anyone with information that can help get in touch.

“I appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time or who has information that can help us identify the men, to contact the police. “

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101, citing incident 0428 of January 6, 2022.
