Christmas supermarket opening hours in Berkshire: Tesco, Lidl, Sainsburys and more


NOL can be a hectic time with shopping for gifts and shopping for food before the big day.

While some enjoy singing along and watching endless festive movies, there is one thing that is definitely not stress free and that is the supermarket Christmas shop.

Fighting in the aisles for the last bundle of pigs and blankets or wondering if you’ll have a fresh turkey can cause panic.

And in case you forget to bring the Christmas pudding like Pam from Gavin and Stacey, here are the supermarket hours of operation for those last minute trips.

All supermarket chains operate at different times than usual during the last days of the year and it is always best to check what is open before you leave the house.


As Christmas Eve approaches, the store has extended its opening hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Sunday December 19 the store will be open from 9:30 am to 4 pm.

All stores will be closed on December 25 and 26, with stores also changing their opening hours on New Years Eve, with most stores opening until 6 p.m. before the closing day on January 1.


Sainsbury’s will be open between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. in most stores, on Christmas Eve, department stores will open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The supermarket has confirmed that it will keep all stores closed this Boxing Day as a thank you to colleagues for their hard work.


Tesco has revealed that more than 370 department stores will be open for 24 hours between December 20 and 23.

The supermarket said its festive opening hours will vary during the holidays and advises customers to check in-store.

All stores will be open until 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and Express stores will remain open until 10 p.m.


Morrisons hours of operation will vary from store to store, but the majority will see extended hours of operation from 6 a.m. to midnight from December 20 to 23.

On Christmas Eve, the store will close at 6 p.m.

To say a big thank you to their hard working staff, the store will be closed on December 26th.


Lidl’s hours of operation also vary from store to store, but the majority of Berks will benefit from extended hours of 7am to 11pm from Monday, December 20 to December 23.

On Christmas Eve (December 24), the store will close at 6 p.m. and it will also be closed on Boxing Day.

ASDA Christmas and New Years opening hours

Asda has yet to announce its Christmas and New Years opening hours.


Store opening hours vary from store to store and customers are advised to check hours using the branch finder here.

Most stores will be open for extended hours, closing at 11 p.m. on the days leading up to Christmas Eve. Some local shops will open until midnight.

On Christmas Eve, the majority of stores will open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on New Years Eve from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, shops will be closed except those at Welcome Break motorway service stations and Shell forecourts – some of which will be open 24 hours a day.

On New Year’s Day, shops will be closed, except for a small number which will have varying opening hours between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.
