Ireland’s first-ever contactless grocery store, Market x Flutter, launched in Clonskeagh, Dublin on Tuesday.
AI-powered computer vision allows shoppers to select their purchases and go, without having to wait in line or stop to scan or pay.
The food store, developed for Flutter by Compass Group Ireland, offers fresh meals including a selection of hot and chilled takeaway meals, as well as drinks and confectionery, it is open to the general public.
“A truly frictionless shopping experience, customers check-in as they walk in, then roam freely through the store, choosing from the food offering as they please; no scanning and no queuing. One receipt is delivered to their phone moments after they leave the store.”
The first store launched on Tuesday at Flutter Entertainment’s global headquarters in Clonskeagh, Dublin 4, and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Former Irish rugby sevens star Greg O’Shea, who also won Love Island in 2019 alongside Amber Gill, was a guest at the launch.
“This store, with its large selection of fresh and healthy meals, is ideal for those who are short on time and trying to stick to a healthy diet,” he said.
Dublin-Rathdown local minister Josepha Madigan was guest of honor at the store opening. She praised Flutter and Compass Ireland for what she called “exciting innovation in retail and customer service, and a reflection of the dynamism of the restaurant industry in Ireland”.
Facial recognition or biometrics are not used in the new technology, ensuring buyer privacy.

Flutter Entertainment is a global sports betting, gaming and entertainment provider and employs approximately 1,700 people at its Dublin headquarters.
Deirdre O’Neill, managing director of Compass Ireland, said trials of Flutter’s new workplace catering solution had been very successful.

Frictionless units will be established in the offices of other corporate clients of Compass Ireland, as well as in the sports, education and leisure sectors.
