Kroger Health administers 10 millionth COVID vaccine

Kroger Health, the healthcare division of the Kroger Co. family of companies, administered its 10 millionth dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, including booster shots. The announcement comes as the Omicron variant increases across the country and Kroger Health continues to expand its options for the detection, prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

“As Kroger Health reaches critical milestone of delivering our 10 millionth dose of COVID-19 vaccine, we elevate our incredible associates to Kroger Health pharmacies and clinics who continue to inspire with their dedication to providing the best patient care, “said Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health.” Our commitment to filling patient prescriptions as well as immunizing patients over the past two years has been remarkable as the healthcare industry grapples with significant challenges. We are extremely encouraged by the ability of our team to continue to help America heal and recover from the effects of the pandemic. “

Cincinnati-based Kroger, the nation’s largest supermarket chain, operates nearly 2,800 stores in 35 states, including 2,270 pharmacies and more than 200 retail health clinics.

In the past 24 months in its fight against COVID, Kroger Health has:

• Partnership with federal and state governments to facilitate administration of vaccines and tests to eligible individuals as soon as both resources become available, leveraging pharmacies, clinics and the team of healthcare experts of the retail chain.

• Joined the Biden administration on several initiatives to speed up COVID-19 testing and vaccination in America, including the $ 5 million #CommunityImmunity Giveaway and become one of three national partners to reduce prices and make rapid COVID-19 home tests available to customers at cost price from September to December 2021 (100 days). In stores with pharmacies, Kroger Health offers Abbott’s Binax Now, and in stores without a drugstore, Kroger Health offers Quidel’s QuickVue. Additionally, Kroger Health recently introduced a Gravity Diagnostics-activated Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) home collection kit in select stores. This kit offers the convenience of in-home sample collection with PCR testing performed in a CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory. Kroger Health is currently adding more test manufacturers to help increase product availability.

• Hosted drive-thru test sites and immunization clinics across the country to improve accessibility in addition to forming partnerships to provide individuals with transportation to immunization appointments.

• Has administered 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to date, through the initial round as well as booster injections for all eligible age populations according to guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) . Kroger Health continues to administer and increase the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine at its locations.

• Support for the administration of vaccines to associates across the organization, allowing associates to receive a one-time payment of $ 100 when fully immunized.

“Our administration of over 10 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and the ability of our team to respond quickly to updates to CDC vaccine guidelines and other new developments have been critical tools in our fight against the virus, ”said Dr. Marc Watkins, Kroger’s Chief Medical Officer. “Vaccines remain the most effective method to prevent and reduce the impact of COVID-19, and with the recent publication of several treatment options for those who contract the virus, we remain optimistic. “

Since January 10, the Centers for Disease Control reports that there have been 61.7 million cases in the United States, after hitting the 50 million mark less than a month ago on December 14. More than 800,000 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 in the country. Of the total population aged 5 years and over, 79.2% received at least one vaccine.
