A Go Local store has opened in St Helens, Merseyside, after a refurbishment.
Husband and wife team Bisi and Mayo Osundeko took over the store last December and although it is their first convenience store, they have another retail experience in building the baby care brand in Joy and Joe Baby line, named after their children.
Bisi commented, “We had a dream start with our new store. After spotting the opportunity over a year ago, it is finally a reality for us. We serve the local community by giving them the convenience store the area has been asking for for many years.
“Living locally, we are well aware of the needs of the local community here in Sutton and the crucial need for postal counter service, which we have revamped and relaunched to operate seven days a week inside our store.
“Go Local offers our customers great values and lots of promotions. The store plays an important role in supporting the people of the surrounding community with their daily shopping. Many of our regular customers are elderly and dependent on the store. They are thrilled with the new offer.
The store is located on Junction Lane in Sutton. It was officially opened this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by the Mayor of St Helens, Cllr Sue Murphy.
The store’s offer includes sandwiches, hot drinks, takeaway meals and ice cream. Basic groceries are also available with a refrigerated, frozen section and an extensive BWS section.
The site was once a convenience store and post office, but had fallen into disrepair.
Bisi and her husband Mayo undertook major improvements to the store, including new cooling units and more shelving space, keeping the post office an integral part of the local community.
They also retained staff from the previous operation to help run the 2,000 square foot store.
Guy Swindell, Co-Managing Director of Parfetts, said: “We have worked closely with Bisi and Mayo to prepare the store and ensure it is well designed and fully stocked to meet the needs of its customers. As successful entrepreneurs with a proven track record in retail, the couple embraced the opportunity with genuine enthusiasm. This is already translating into strong sales, and the availability of our own brand Go Local products on the shelves means customers get value and choice.
