Publix Super Markets opened its ninth GreenWise Market specialty store with the opening of a new location in Tampa, Florida.
The 26,000-square-foot store opened yesterday at 555 Channelside Dr. in Tampa, the second location for the GreenWise Market small-format concept to launch this year and the seventh location overall in Florida. In early February, Publix opened a nearly 28,000 square foot GreenWise store in Fort Lauderdale, the grocer’s first in a mixed-use development.
Likewise, the new store in the redeveloped Water Street neighborhood of Tampa is located in a high-rise, multi-use building, under two high-rise apartment buildings and a parking lot. The outlet connects to the city district cooling system, which supplies chilled water to the store’s air conditioning and refrigeration systems for improved energy efficiency and stability, Publix said. This is the second time that a Publix store has connected to a district cooling system for air conditioning needs, but the first time for refrigeration, the company noted.
“So many exciting things are happening in downtown Tampa, and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” Publix President Kevin Murphy said in a statement. “Our mix of high-quality specialties, home-made and take-out items will add a level of convenience for residents and visitors looking for easy meal solutions while enjoying the events and activities available in the local areas. surroundings. “
Like other GreenWise stores, the Tampa site houses “Experience Zones” of product and service categories. The section “CUTS” offers meat raised without antibiotics or added hormones, as well as seafood from sustainable sources. More home cooking options, including fresh pre-cut fruits and vegetables, are featured in the “PRODUCE” section.
In the “EATS” area, guests will find made-to-order meals and take-out options such as gourmet artisanal sandwiches and freshly baked pizzas. There is also a station offering fresh sushi and Asian bowls. A careful selection of gourmet wines and cheeses, olives and cold meats anchors the ‘FIND’ department, while the ‘POURS’ area offers locally roasted coffee, smoothies and other draft drinks that customers can tap into. drink in store. The “CARES” health and wellness section contains vitamins, nutritional supplements, natural soaps and shampoos, and other health and personal care items.
Also in the store is a mural by local artist Leon Bedore (aka Tes One) that depicts life in downtown Tampa through bright colors and modern shapes. Additionally, shoppers can sign up for GreenWise Market Rewards, a loyalty program that offers personalized offers and digital coupons. Rewards can only be redeemed at GreenWise stores.
Aimed at foodies and healthy lifestyle consumers, the first GreenWise Market, a 29,000 square foot store, opened in Tallahassee, Florida in October 2018. Ranging in size from 20,000 to 30,000 square feet, other locations were opened in Lakeland, Boca Raton, Odessa and Ponte Vedra, Florida; Marietta, Georgia; and Mountain Brook, Ala. Publix closed two GreenWise stores – in Mount Pleasant and Lexington, South Carolina – last August after determining that the locations and spaces no longer met their needs as the concept evolved.
Plans call for the 10th GreenWise store to open in St. Augustine, Florida. An opening schedule has not yet been disclosed.
Overall, Publix, based in Lakeland, Florida, operates 1,274 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
