Robbers armed with a gun and a meat cleaver hit Village Convenience Store, Heywood


An investigation is underway after a man was assaulted in a store by two robbers armed with a firearm and a meat cleaver.

Armed robbers targeted the Village Convenience Store on Middleton Road, Heywood last Friday just after 9pm.

The two men entered the store and threatened the victim before hitting him repeatedly in the head, forcing him to be hospitalized, before escaping the store empty-handed.

Detective Sergeant Sam Taylor said: ‘It was a terrifying ordeal for the victim in which he bravely defended himself.

“We are following all available investigative leads to identify these offenders and are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw the offenders before or after the incident.

“Did you see anyone behaving suspiciously?”

“Anyone with any information, no matter how small, should contact the police.”

Police say the thieves are both white males who appear to be in their mid-20s.

One wore a blue coat with a gray fur hood, gray tracksuit bottoms and white sneakers.

The other wore a black quilted coat with a hoodie underneath, gray jogging bottoms and black sneakers with white trim.
